Though an office should undergo cleaning on a daily basis, some areas of the workplace might need more frequent cleaning than others. The floor, for instance, is the most heavily occupied and used surface in an office, which is why it needs to be deep cleaned, scrubbed and mopped at least once a day. Find out here about other office areas that need daily cleaning by Suji Siv, who is the owner and CEO of Clean Group, a full-service commercial & office cleaning company in Sydney, NSW.

“Routine office cleaning helps keep the premises fresh and germ-free and protects employees from infections. It can also boost the productivity and performance of the workers and reduce the number of sick days in the company.

Even if it is not possible to clean the entire office on a daily basis, one must seriously consider getting the critical places like floors cleaned at least once daily,” says Suji Siv.

There are various parts of the office that one must consider cleaning daily, the floors being the most crucial. No matter what colour or type the office floors are, they will become dirty over time because the floor is the most used surface in a property.

Workers in an office will bring all kinds of dirt and dust from the outside and leave it on the office floors, which will make the floors dirty and lose their shine.

Dirty floors are the last thing a customer or visitor wants to see when visiting a business and it might discourage them from going ahead, which is why business owners must keep their floors clean and sparkling at all times.

A professional office cleaner can make sure to daily clean the office floors, vacuum, scrub and mop as required to maintain a fresh and healthy work environment.

Other than the floor, office toilets must also be cleaned daily, or more than once daily as needed. A toilet is one of the germiest places in an office. All workers use the office toilet throughout the day and it keeps getting dirtier and germier, which poses the risk of diseases to employees.

Ideally, all toilets and bathrooms in the office should be cleaned and fully disinfected at least once daily or more often as required. This will help reduce the concentration of germs inside toilet seats, bowls, on the sink, water taps and other items. Daily cleaning will also ensure that the office toilets are always clean and shining.

Cleaning office furniture and upholstery daily is recommended. Furniture in shared spaces such as the reception area, workers’ area and cafeteria must be cleaned daily because they can become dirty very quickly depending on the use.

Wiping down the surfaces of all furniture items, chairs, tables, desks and cabinets at least once a day is a good way to keep the office furniture looking nice and feeling comfortable at all times. The same can be said for upholstery including sofas and cushions as well as for office carpets and curtains.

Fabric items get dirty easily and need extra care. Daily vacuuming fabric and leather upholstery is a good way to maintain them. Any spills or stains should be quickly removed.

Work desks are another one of the germiest places in an office. Why? Because workers spend most of their office time at their desks and some of them might even be eating at their desks.

It is better to be safe than sorry and daily cleaning all work desks around the office. This shouldn’t have to be a long or time-consuming process. A routine vacuum followed by wiping surfaces is all that needs to be done.

Furthermore, employees should be asked to keep their respective desks clean and tidy throughout the day and not eat at their desks. The accumulation of germs is much higher in offices where employees tend to eat at their work desks.

Provide the workers with disinfectant wipes and sanitiser to maintain proper hygiene and clean their desks as and when required.

Office electronics, especially the shared ones such as coffee machines, printers and refrigerators, are also likely to have a high concentration of bacteria and should therefore be cleaned and disinfected daily.

In addition to this, computers, screens, shared phones, keyboards and other personal electronic items should also be wiped down at least once daily with disinfecting wipes.

High-traffic places and frequently touched items, including office doors, knobs, handles, switches, water taps, dispensers, lift buttons, phone receivers, water bottles, and handrails need to be routinely disinfected to prevent the spread of infections in office premises.

Lastly, the garbage bins within the premises must be kept in a good condition, which includes emptying and cleaning them routinely. This goes for all rubbing bins all around the property.
