Transportation (Getting Around) in Glebe

Glebe is an excellent location in terms of proximity to the Sydney centre and other famous locations, including Sydney University, Central Station, Blackwattle Bay, and Opera House.

2.3 kilometres – 25 mins walk from Central Station (Central, Eddy Ave, Haymarket NSW 2000, Australia)

1.4 kilometres – 20 mins walk to Sydney University

For those who don’t prefer to walk, there are always the options of buses and trains. Glebe is served by bus routes 431, 433 and 370, connecting the suburb to the Sydney CBD and other prominent regions around. However, you should know that buses are slow here and are not known for being on time.

The Inner West Light Rail passes through Glebe and has two stations here, Glebe and Jubilee Park. It takes around 20 minutes to travel from Glebe to Central railway station.

Living and Accommodation

It’s a peaceful suburb with most residents being young families. It’s a good place to live for working professionals and families with kids. As a student, you may not like it very much, especially if you’re a party person because families and neighbours may not allow a lot of parties in residential areas. Also, it could be difficult to find a shared house for rent. The most common accommodation type is apartments or flats.

If you’re planning to live here, try to find a house or apartment to the west of Glebe Point Road, which is known to be more beautiful and quiet than the east.

Traffic congestion, noise and pollution are common due to proximity to the city centre and can often discourage visitors planning to move to Glebe.

There are plenty of things to do and see in Glebe, including many historical buildings, parks, shorelines, restaurants, cafes, and more. These include –

Blackwattle Bay – sit by the water or take a walk around.

Shop at the fish markets, Glebe markets (every Saturday), and Broadway Shopping Centre.
